LOUPE

Many of the watch parts you will be dealing with are very small. Therefore, a loupe, or jeweler’s magnifying glass, is needed in order to see what you are doing, especially when installing watch hands or searching for the movement detent button. I prefer a loupe that comes with a head strap for a hands-free magnification. You can find these for $6 on Ebay.

DIGITAL CALIPER

The digital caliper will answer all of your questions when it comes to sizing. When building a watch from spare parts, measurements are everything. When you know the dimensions of the inside of a watch case, then you will know what parts you can use for your project. Be sure to reset the caliper to “0” before use, and pick up some spare batteries to keep handy in case you leave it on. The Cen-Tech 6” caliper below cost only $10 on Ebay. It uses one 1.5V Maxell LR44 battery.
